Requirements
Because the profession relies heavily on numbers, reporting specialists must start with good math skills and attention to details.
They must think critically to sort important information and be able to communicate orally and in writing.
Employers typically demand a bachelor’s degree in market research, computer science, statistics or math. Majors in business administration, social sciences or communications are also acceptable if they have a strong foundation in research methods and statistics.
Some specialists also have a master’s degree, especially in management positions.
Although graduate degrees in marketing research are available, many specialists opt for MBAs.
