Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organization providing assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters, irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics. MSF was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1999. MSF has provided medical assistance to vulnerable people in Iran since 1990.
MSF in Iran is seeking to employ a qualified candidate for the following position:

PHARMACY SUPERVISOR

City of work: Kerman

Contract: FULL-TIME Long commitment with first contract of 3 months

Main purpose of the job
Ensuring general functioning of the pharmacy and supervising pharmacy supply chain processes in accordance with MSF standards, protocols and procedures, in order to ensure its efficiency and operating availability.

Responsibilities and tasks
• Ensuring storage, stock management and supply processes, as well as hygiene and security procedures, tools, and protocols (controlling pests and rodents), implementing appropriate quality controls and records, in order to ensure good storage conditions (temperatures, humidity and light exposure) and availability of drugs and medical material, according to MSF protocols, national regulations and in cooperation with the logistics department.
• Coordinating the delivery, reception and recording of international and local orders, in close coordination with the logistics department, updating stock files and informing line managers on their status (shortfalls, over-stocking, expiry dates), in order to permanently ensure security stock levels and ensure efficient management of stock.
• Supervising orders of medical and drug material in order to ensure an efficient and appropriate consumption pattern under budget constraints.
• Supervising the supply of drugs to patients, according to medical prescriptions, informing them on consumption patterns and keeping conditions in order to ensure their therapeutic progression.
• Ensuring efficient supply to other pharmacies managed/supported by MSF according to orders and stocks, and using cold chain when needed. Monitoring and analyzing orders of depending pharmacies in order to avoid ruptures of stock or having expired drugs.
• Supervising, with the HR department, the associated processes (sizing, staff shifts, recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the pharmaceutical team and the nursing staff, in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required and to improve their dispensing capabilities.
• Recording all items received and issued in computer (Isystock) and reporting on drug consumptions and medical equipment dispensed according to protocols, informing on unusual patterns as well as forecasting future needs, in order to rationalize the budget and to ensure availability.
• Assisting in training of nursing staff regarding dispensing of drugs and their side effects.

Specific accountabilities for the role:
• At the project level, reports to the Project Medical Referent (PMR).
• Communication lines include the PMR and the Mission Pharmacy Manager at the mission level.
• Sees to it that Kerman Project Pharmacy and dispensaries in both clinics are physically organized according to the MSF standards of pharmacy set-up and management (including temperature monitoring, documentation/ recording/ filing of bound paper documents in the pharmacy filing folders).
• Ensures regulation of MSF staff access inside the Kerman project pharmacy by enforcing “ONLY AUTHORIZED PERSONS ALLOWED INSIDE THE PHARMACY” policy.
• Responsible for receiving, checking and validating the technical aspect during purchase of local orders from identified supplies and importuning batch number and expiry dates of items to the Unifield system.
• Acts as property custodian of all items included in the pharmacy stock.
• Oversee the technical daily operations of the project medical stock, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow

• Ensure a thorough analysis of the Project stock to guarantee good control and up to date data of stock levels and avoid expiries, overstocks and stock outs. Reporting on drug consumption and medical devices dispensed according to protocols, informing on unusual patterns.
• Ensure accurate, efficient, and timely dispensing of medications according to Drs. prescriptions
• Regular monthly physical inventory and spot checks to be carried-out especially when movement/s of items are noted.
• Regular updating of the Isystock program and physical stock cards to be done as per briefing.
• Responsible for making available all forms/tools that are needed in the Pharmacy Stock Management
• Activities. Brief, train and ensure the tools are well implemented.
• The Project pharmacist, with the support of the medical activity manager will steelhead periodic rational prescription analysis, as part of AMR minimum package to be integrated in the medical activities
• Monthly submission of required reports to the Mission Pharmacy Manager in Tehran.
• Regular communication and updates with Project Medical Referent (PMR).
• Regular communication with the PHCC Nurse Dispenser (cc/inform PMR in all communication especially for periodic consumption list and stock requests.
• Regular visits to the PHCC to ensure the protocols and procedures of pharmacy are in place in all end user units.
• Participate and inputs technical elements for local purchase, seeking support from Mission pharmacist when needed.
• Maintain high standards of patient care during dispensing, including patient education on medication and their side effects.
• Disposes the expired and damaged items following the Mission Pharmacy Manager and Project Medical Referent’s instructions.
• Participation in internal MSF meetings when needed.
• Participation in proposed staff trainings.

The tasks above are not exhaustive regarding the specificity of MSF and possible evolution that could occur over time through adaptation of the mission. Consequently, other tasks can be asked to allow the mission to function optimally.

Requirements:
Education : A Pharmacy Major is essential. Must be certified and registered within the Medical Council of Iran.

Experience: At least 1 year of certified work experience as a Pharmacy Manager.
Languages : Farsi and English languages are essential.
