Job Description

● Knowing, promoting, implementing, and following up the universal hygiene standards or precautions, bio-hazard prevention, infection control, security rules, and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene in his/her working environment. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality at all times. ● Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations, daily rounds, and other medical procedures. ● Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary. ● Identifying Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment. Knowing and being aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit. ● Ensuring patients are properly received and installed and that those with a lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements, and comfort. For ER and OPD nurses, ensure triage of patients in waiting areas, wards, or during emergencies, detect the priority acute or emergency cases, carry out first aid care, and refer them to the doctor when necessary. ● Sending material to be sterilized and recuperating it from sterilization ● Carrying out admission, surveillance, and follow-up of patients (i.e. assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency situation or deterioration. ● Carrying and supervising administrative procedures and documents (filling in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed. ● Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock take of medicines and material at every team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior authorization, etc.) ● Performing cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. ● Following the user manual and protocols and alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning. ● Supervising and training nurse-aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners, and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures. ● Collaborating in the team's multidisciplinary problem-solving process according to the need of the patients. ● Assuring quality care by adhering to therapeutic standards of MSF guidelines. -Maintaining patient confidence by keeping information confidential. ● Participating in meetings where the nurse’s presence is required. ● Using cardiac monitoring, suction, and defibrillator. ● Performing shot training for the team on general topics in nursing. ● Promoting, always implementing, and following the universal hygiene standards or precautions, bio-hazard prevention, infection control, security rules, and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises. Ensure high standards of hygiene in his/her working environment. ● Respect the wearing of personal protective equipment, which is essential for your own safety and protection. ● Respecting the basic hygiene, disinfection, and waste management protocols. ● Cleaning, disinfecting, and preparing medical instruments after usage. ● Pack the clean instruments and carry them for sterilization. ● Collaborating with the hygiene team leader and the nursing team supervisor regarding hygiene items required for the nursing activity. ● Collaborating in organizing the waiting area and the patient flow in the clinic, with the support of the nurse team supervisor and other departments. ● Performing screening according to guidelines for communicable diseases. ● Performing a general triage for all the patients and prioritizing the patients according to the medical criteria. ● Recording chief complaints and vital signs of patients. ● Prioritizing urgent cases and referring them to the consultants accordingly. ● Orienting patients toward medical consultants, mental health team, and social worker, for appointment and follow-up. ● Assessing if the patient is included in the target population and reorienting nontarget patients (who are not in emergency condition) towards other medical structures in collaboration with a social worker. ● Carrying out first aid in case of need and informing the medical responsible immediately. ● Performing nursing care for patients such as dressing, injection, sampling (blood and sputum), ECG rapid diagnostic tests, and other nursing procedures following MSF protocols. ● Performing VCT and screening tests (HIV, HBV, HCV, and Syphilis). ● Recording any care/procedure given to patients in the register/file in a comprehensive way. ● Assisting the doctors during certain procedures when needed. ● Collecting or arranging medicines prescribed by consultants for patients making sure that the patient carries the prescribed dose and buffer. ● Explaining to patients how to follow their treatment and checking that they have understood. ● Referring back to the consultant whenever a prescription is unclear. ● Informing the nurse team supervisor about the shortage and availability of drugs. ● Ensuring the patients take the first dose if needed. ● Reporting medical errors and mistakes.

Requirements

● Essential recognized nurse degree/diploma. ● Desirable: a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. ● Desirable 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGOs. ● Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.
