Job Description


Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to im-prove the patients’ mental health.

• Carrying out an evaluation of the mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Inform-ing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow, and refer-ring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the pa-tient's condition
• Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV, and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
• Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF proto-cols to improve their mental health conditions
• Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions
• Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities
• Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
• Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential
• Evaluates mental health needs of patients and establishes a diagnosis and a plan of treatment while respecting MSF protocols in Panah E Merh Centre.
• Refer patients to other health professionals (as a psychiatrist) whenever necessary, to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition,
• Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF proto-cols to improve their mental health conditions
• Assists in training and resourcing staff members whenever necessary to enhance the scope of MH activities.
• Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities
• Informs the medical activity manager and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
• Ensure that all patient information remains confidential according to MSF protocols.
• Assist and contribute to teamwork required in a multidisciplinary setup.
• Support nurses whenever requested with Pre-Test and Post–Test Counselling and support other staff as requested.
• Support and follow up newly diagnosed and known patients with NCDs who require counseling as referred by medical doctors.
• Adherence Assessment & Adherence Support skills to assess treatment commencement suitability, and then to support patients as required during the 3-month treatment for the Hep C patients.
• Work closely with the referral doctor to facilitate patient information, recommendations, and referrals.
• Deliver evidence-based psychological interventions for patients who are active drug users and for those patients who wish to be abstinent.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to assist with and/or initiate external referrals where necessary.
• Manage and keep up to date with clinical administration, including patient notes and statistical data.
• Provide technical support to the psychologist in the Vahdat clinic when requested.
• Participate actively during medical meetings to strengthen multidisciplinary teamwork aimed at enhancing the care of our patients.
• Complete and accurate data collection using the tools provided and timely submission of the same to the data operator as per the schedule.
• Respects the MSF-prepared weekly and monthly work schedule and promptly notifies the project PMR if una-ble to attend the clinic for a justifiable reason. She/he shall respect the administrative aspects of working re-quirements, including respecting the working hours (being on time in attending the clinic and leaving the clin-ic), informing the MSF PMR promptly in case of justifiable absence.
• Actively participate/contribute to implementing Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible vic-tims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary multidisciplinary emergency treat-ment as well as other multidisciplinary care.
• Be available for supervisory trainings and participate in any other trainings requested by the supervisor to enhance the care of the patients in the Kerman Project.

Requirements:

Education: Essential degree or diploma in Psychology

Experience:

Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a psychologist,
A clinical psychologist would be a strong asset
Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries

Languages: Knowledge of Persian and English is essential.
Knowledge: Desirable computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet)
