Job Description

The principal responsibilities of the Head Gardener is to manage the gardens and grounds of the British Embassy estate in Tehran to a very high standard and to ensure all appropriate gardening tasks are completed to maintain and develop the garden estate. The Head Gardener will lead on all Health and Safety issues for the gardening team and the safety of staff/visitors when working within the grounds. Furthermore, he/she will manage and lead a team of 10 gardeners over two compounds, and will be required to focus on their development and well being. Main Duties and Responsibilities: - Planning and delivering the yearly garden maintenance and improvement work - Ensure that the lawn irrigation system is functioning effectively and the lawns and hedgerows are receiving the correct level of water - Advice on the conservation and protection of trees during development works on the estate - Develop novel approaches to the management of the gardens to ensure maintenance is sustainable and where possible reduces chemical use - Help with the training of all staff in health and safety matters - Line management of all gardening staff, agreeing forward job descriptions, completing appraisals, identifying training requirements, and proactively improving their knowledge and performance - Assisting the estates manager and procurement team with the delivering of the yearly budget plan - Maintenance of Trees - Safe use of Pesticides - Forward planning for the replanting and improvement of the gardens - Manage and organised the training of gardening personnel in the safe operation of garden machinery either in house or by third party. - Co-operate with Technical Works Services Deputy technical manager to deliver the effective ongoing maintenance of gardening machinery.
