Job Description

Responsibilities: 1. Prepare drilling proposals. Liaise with geologists and reservoir engineers to establish predicated formation levels and pressures, numbers and types of wells to be drilled, well coordinates, casing seating depths and completion types 2. Prepare drilling programs; include preparing casing and logging programs, deviations, mud and cementing programs keeping in mind geological formations and prepares the listing of well head equipment. Detail in graphical form the expected drilling time for each phase activity, specifies new/rented equipment to be purchased /ordered in accordance with programs requirements and raises appropriate documentation. Monitor usages/utilization of new/rented equipment 3. Prepare on-site, surface and down-hole equipment requirements, particular requirements for rented equipment, expedites procurement. Ensure equipment is returned to contract suppliers after completion of drilling operations, cross checks contractor invoices with own records for duration of work activities and cost of hire and endorses invoices for payment 4. Calculate volume and composition of cement slurry to be used and its rate of displacement to acquire a good bond and maximum allowable pressure. Photocopies programs and distributes to Drilling Supervisors 5. Review daily, directional and/or side tracking surveys. Check surveys to determine directional departure readings and plots route of the drilled well hole. Advise Drilling Supervisors of new drilling course and any corrective action to be taken 6. Provide drilling engineering expertise to ensure drilling operations are optimized. Advice on alternative drilling methods and equipment, including the choice of: turbo or rotary drilling, mud type, tool bit, casing specifications, well head Christmas tree specifications, directional equipment and fishing tools. Prepare final well reports. Prepare detailed drilling operation summaries and analyses of time, mud/chemicals consumption and costs, deviations and drilling charts. Check that such information is in an acceptable format for future fault diagnoses 7. Carry out optimization studies on tools and equipment as instructed. Use information from daily drilling activity reports, including bit records, nozzle sizes, drilling speed, bit and mud conditions, and evaluates information to determine future drilling methods and related tools and equipment to be used 8. Prepare annual drilling schedules. Receive input from Geology and Engineering groups, Determine most economical route for rig movement based on well location and distance between wells; provide input for the preparation of the annual capital drilling budget, including detailing material, rented equipment and Company equipment to be ordered/purchased, and prepare estimates of drilling rig and service contract Company costs, calculating the average unit cost for each well to be drilled 9. Carry out other similar or related duties such as preparing quick reference tabulations, charts and write-ups on drilling engineering work whenever there is a rig activity; maintaining permanent well data files; initiating materials requisitions and keeping abreast of technological developments in the field of drilling engineering. 10.
