Job Description

We are looking for a Purchasing Officer to buy products that are essential for our company’s day-to-day operations. You will review prices and quality and ensure optimal stock levels, across Oil and Gas industry. Purchasing Officer responsibilities include evaluating vendors, negotiating contracts and preparing reports (e.g. on orders and costs.) For this role, you should have good knowledge of market research, along with solid analytical skills to make sure you’re identifying the most profitable offers. Ultimately, you’ll create and maintain good relationships with key suppliers to ensure merchandise is high quality and delivered on time. Research potential vendors Compare and evaluate offers from suppliers Negotiate contract terms of agreement and pricing Track orders and ensure timely delivery Review quality of purchased products Enter order details (e.g. vendors, quantities, prices) into internal databases, and issue MR`s Maintain updated records of purchased products, delivery information and invoices Prepare reports on purchases, including cost analyses Monitor stock levels and place orders as needed Coordinate with warehouse staff to ensure proper storage Attend trade shows and exhibitions to stay up-to-date with industry trends Evaluate Suppliers Purchasing officers evaluate suppliers before making purchasing decisions. This involves traveling to the supplier’s location and examining their products, as well as interviewing the decision makers on the supplier’s team to learn why their product is the best choice. Purchasing officers also compare suppliers using cost-benefit analysis. Negotiate with Suppliers on Behalf of Employer Purchasing officers act on behalf of their employer in the negotiation process. They must know their employer’s budget thoroughly to negotiate. They must also have a deep understanding of their employer’s needs and how the supplier in question meets those needs. Work Out Logistical Agreements with Suppliers It is the responsibility of purchasing officers to work out the logistical details with a supplier once a purchase has been made. This involves setting delivery amounts and a time frame for delivery. Maintain and Review Purchasing, Shipping, and Receiving Records Purchasing officers have to maintain meticulous records of each purchase, as well as when each order was shipped out, and when the order was received. They must also monitor warehouse inventory to re-order items before they run out. Attend Industry Trade Shows Networking and staying on top of industry trends is a key part of being a good purchasing officer. Industry trade shows provide opportunities to learn about and build rapport with potential suppliers.

Requirements

Proven work experience as a Purchasing Officer, Purchasing Agent or similar role Good knowledge of vendor sourcing practices (researching, evaluating and liaising with vendors) Experienced with purchasing data base establishment & reporting Understanding of supply chain procedures Solid analytical skills, with the ability to create financial reports and conduct cost analyses Negotiation skills BSc in Logistics, Business Administration or relevant field Identifying the most profitable offers.
