Job Description

Main Responsibilities: Carries out a range of general ledger accounting activities related to the maintenance of permanent information, the setting up of new accounts, monitoring account "closings", cost allocations and problem solving. Monitors and reviews the general ledger on a regular basis for anomalies. Duties: - Assists in the maintenance of permanent information in the general ledger. Receives foreign exchange rates, updating the system, receiving and assisting in the establishment of requirements for new AFE's and carrying out the opening and closing of accounts at month and year end. Ensures that no additional information is included after closing. - Participates in the setting up of new accounts in the general ledger following the established protocols. Receives requirements for new accounts either from other areas of F&A and occasionally from user departments. Obtains completed and approved forms, enters data into the general ledger system setting up account and activates account for user availability. Advises user of account numbers and status. - Monitors "closings" according to established dates. Includes ensuring that schedules are checked and that all tasks have been completed correctly (those in F&A). Flags in general ledger system that accounts are closed and no more entries are to be made. Works with Senior Accountant to make any general ledger entries. - Assists in ad-hoc problem solving related to the general ledger. Includes reviewing currency entries made in error, identifying where the general ledger system is not working correctly and investigating or reviewing accounts as requested, providing feedback. - Assists senior accountant with cost allocation activities for indirect costs to determine where costs have occurred and how they have or should be allocated. Obtains details of costs, runs reports for cost determination for each individual block in the concession area and follows procedures to allocate costs to either exploration, development or production activities. Where required may allocate costs from upstream to downstream accounts. - Carries out the ongoing monitoring of the general ledger to identify any anomalies and to resolve any issues before they show up anywhere else (for example after month end closings) - Carries out assignments which are at a professional level, in accordance with established policies and accounting standards. Any independent decisions/actions would generally be limited to responding to user requests or in following up on own inquiries.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements: - Degree in business, accounting or commerce - 4 years of experience in general ledger accounting experience in oil company or a financial reporting background in a public accounting firm. - Fluency in English Overtime Acceptable Skills: Familiar with Microsoft products.
