
Job Description
• Monitor and analyze sales records, trends, or economic conditions to anticipate consumer buying patterns and determine what the company will sell and how much inventory is needed. • Examine, select, order, and purchase at the most favorable price merchandise consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other factors. • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history. • Monitor shipments to ensure that goods come in on time and resolve problems related to undelivered goods. • Review catalogs, industry periodicals, directories, trade journals, and Internet sites and consult with other department personnel to locate necessary goods and services. • Monitor changes affecting supply and demand, tracking market conditions, price trends, or futures markets. • Compare prices, specifications, and delivery dates to determine the best bid among potential suppliers. • Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future goods availability. • Study sales records and inventory levels of current stock to develop strategic purchasing programs that facilitate employee access to supplies. • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy. • Prepare reports regarding market conditions and merchandise costs. • Control purchasing department budgets.
Requirements
