Experienced and hands-on Heavy Machinery Manager to lead the comprehensive management of the organization’s heavy machinery fleet, ranging from planning for equipment procurement and deployment to operation, maintenance, repair, and replacement. This individual will be responsible for enhancing fleet availability and productivity, reducing unplanned downtime, and controlling operational costs through the development and implementation of effective maintenance and repair programs. This position requires active presence at operational sites and workshops, monitoring of equipment technical performance, and management of spare parts procurement. Furthermore, the Heavy Machinery Manager must ensure the safe, economic, and reliable performance of the fleet through effective management of repair, operator, and support teams.

Responsibilities:

• Fleet lifecycle management: Oversee the procurement, acquisition, mobilization, operation, maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal of heavy machinery.

• Maintenance management: Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs (PM/PdM) to improve equipment availability and reduce unplanned downtime.

• Workshop and operational management: Oversee central and site workshops, coordinate technical troubleshooting and specialized repairs, and ensure timely completion of maintenance work.

• Human resources management: Plan, organize, and evaluate the performance of the machinery department’s personnel, including supervisors, mechanics, electricians, technicians, operators, and warehouse staff. Assign responsibilities and priorities, support technical skills development, and address performance and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies.

• Cost control and procurement: Manage budgets for repairs, spare parts, fuel, and lubricants; plan procurement requirements; evaluate technical and commercial offers; negotiate with suppliers; and follow up on the quality and timely delivery of goods and services.

• Spare-parts and inventory management: Monitor spare-parts inventory, control stock movements, and establish appropriate minimum stock levels to prevent equipment downtime.

• Fleet performance monitoring: Analyze key indicators such as availability, utilization, operating hours, fuel consumption, repair costs, and recurring failures; recommend corrective actions to improve fleet productivity.

• HSE and environmental compliance: Ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements during equipment operation and maintenance; follow up on technical inspections and provide or coordinate training to reduce incidents and equipment damage.

• Management reporting: Prepare and present periodic reports on fleet condition, costs, failures, maintenance activities, and future capital requirements to senior management.

• Cross-functional coordination: Work with project, operations, procurement, finance, and HSE teams to prioritize operational requirements and optimize equipment utilization.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

• At least 10 years of relevant professional experience managing heavy machinery fleets, preferably in mining, dam construction, or road construction projects.

• Proven experience managing repair workshops and technical teams.

• Experience in maintenance planning, spare-parts management, and repair-cost control.

Technical Knowledge:

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines and the hydraulic and electrical systems of heavy equipment.

• In-depth familiarity with equipment manufactured by Komatsu, Caterpillar, Volvo, or comparable brands.

• Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance methods.

• Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and fleet management software.

• Ability to analyze fleet performance indicators and equipment lifecycle costs.

• Experience with spare-parts planning and the technical and commercial evaluation of suppliers.

Management Skills:

• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, including workshop personnel, operators, and support staff.

• Strong resource-planning, prioritization, and follow-up skills.

• Effective technical and commercial negotiation skills, including supplier and contractor management.

• Ability to prepare management reports and present evidence-based recommendations.
