
Job Description
Lead and manage drilling engineering activities, including drilling design and planning, technical evaluation of drilling rigs, equipment and services, management of technical tender requirements and contractors, management of technical and operational drilling risks, and development and improvement of standards and procedures, with the objective of ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of drilling operations and achievement of project objectives.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
• Lead and manage drilling engineering activities and determine the priorities, work plans, and resources required for the department.
• Lead, review, and approve drilling programs and ensure their compliance with technical, operational, economic, and HSE requirements.
• Supervise the design and review of well engineering programs, including casing design, cementing, well trajectory, BHA, and other specialized drilling studies.
• Conduct technical evaluation and approval of onshore and offshore drilling rigs and assess the capability and compliance of drilling equipment and services with project requirements.
• Lead the technical evaluation of drilling materials, equipment, and services and supervise the procurement, fabrication, modification, and supply of specialized items.
• Supervise the preparation and approval of technical tender documents and participate in the technical evaluation of bids and selection of contractors and suppliers.
• Monitor and evaluate the technical performance of drilling contractors and service companies and follow up on corrective actions and performance improvement initiatives.
• Identify, assess, and manage technical and operational drilling risks and ensure compliance with Well Control, HSE, and relevant technical standards and requirements.
• Monitor and analyze drilling performance, investigate NPT, technical issues, and deviations, and develop corrective measures to improve operational time, quality, and cost.
• Develop, review, and update drilling engineering standards, guidelines, and procedures based on technical requirements and operational experience.
• Lead, evaluate, and develop the performance of department engineers and specialists and facilitate knowledge transfer and enhancement of the team's technical capabilities.
• Provide technical reports and analyses to management and coordinate with relevant functions, including Drilling Operations, Geology, Reservoir Engineering, Supply Chain, Contracts, Tenders, and HSE.
Job Requirements:
• Work Experience: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in drilling engineering and drilling operations within the oil and gas industry, preferably including at least 3 years of experience in supervisory or managerial positions.
• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering – Drilling, Drilling Engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines.
• Language: Fluency in English.
Technical Competencies:
• Proficient in drilling engineering and planning of oil and gas well drilling operations.
• Proficient in onshore and offshore drilling rig components and the structure of drilling services and equipment.
• Proficient in the design and review of drilling programs, casing design, cementing, BHA, and well trajectory.
• Proficient in Well Control principles, well blowout prevention and control, and management of drilling-related hazards.
• Proficient in identifying, assessing, and managing technical and operational drilling risks.
• Proficient in drilling performance analysis, NPT identification, and development of improvement and optimization measures.
• Familiarity with different drilling fields and conditions and challenges associated with various formations and operating environments.
• Ability to use and interpret well and drilling data using specialized software such as WellView.
• Proficient in casing design concepts and capable of reviewing and approving designs developed using specialized software such as Landmark.
• Proficient in the technical evaluation of drilling rigs, equipment, materials, and services.
• Proficient in preparing and evaluating technical tender documents and drilling-related technical proposals.
• Familiarity with relevant drilling industry standards and requirements, including API and ISO standards.
• Ability to analyze drilling data and utilize analytical results for decision-making and operational optimization.
• Familiarity with the principles of cost management and economic optimization of drilling operations.
