Job Description

-Carrying out Quality Control and Quality Assurance laboratory tests on concrete, aggregates, and other construction materials according to various standard procedures (e.g. ASTM, MTO, CSA) -Carrying out laboratory tests on soil samples according to various standard procedures, as part of geotechnical investigations -Entering test data and producing test reports -Logging, handling, storing and disposing of samples. Please note that concrete, aggregate, soil and rock samples can weigh up to 30 kg. The successful candidate must be comfortable handling this weight -Cleaning, maintenance, repair, and calibration of laboratory testing equipment -Assisting with ordering and re-supply of laboratory and field supplies -Shipping and receiving of samples, supplies and equipment -Proper care, handling, and storage of various chemical products used in laboratory testing -Interacting with staff in the Ottawa office including field technicians and technologists, administrative and professional staff, as well as with some clients -Expertise in Special Inspection -OSHA regulatory compliance -Dependable independent worker -Quality control -Blueprint reading and interpretation -Excellent plan comprehension -Kept supervisor informed of job progress and material requirements -Performed concrete testing, inspections and sampling concrete, light weight concrete, Mortar, and grout -Assisted in management of business operations by maintaining records and files, preparing cost and inventory reports, and ordering supplies -Recorded results and performed calculations for the lab manager -performed concrete compression lab tests on concrete, light weight Concrete and masonry block -Logged samples in log book to keep Track of all samples that were brought into the lab -Put samples into Cure tanks to be stored until samples were ready to test -Recorded Break results that were turned into the lab manager -Performed mass grading and in place density testing of fill placement for building pads, parking lots, and utility trench back fill -Collected soil samples for testing in the lab
