Job Description

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Tehran is seeking a candidate with a strong understanding of policies in the energy (including renewable energy and mineral resources sector) and engineering (including plant and infrastructure), of the macroeconomy and business environment. The successful candidate is expected to work full-time and play a vital role in the economics/commercial sector under the supervision of the diplomats concerned.

Position: Senior Advisor for Energy & Infrastructure;

Job Description (Illustrative list, specific descriptions to be confirmed after the selection):

  • Monitor, analyze, and report the energy (including renewable energy and mineral resources sector), engineering (plant and infrastructure), technology development, and tender information in Iran
  • Analyze Iranian economic issues and policies
  • Arranging meetings between the embassy and Iranian organizations and assisting visits to Iranian organizations
  • Develop and maintain contacts with the government and industry communities to achieve the above-mentioned tasks
  • Daily newspaper monitoring and translation
  • Fact-finding regarding energy, infrastructure, and economic issues
  • Assisting the economic section to hold conferences and seminars
  • Participate in events such as exhibitions, conferences, and seminars
  • Do any other tasks directed by Korean diplomats

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor’s in related fields. 
  • Legal status to work in the Islamic Republic, or Iran (the embassy does not sponsor visas).
  • Expert computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web research capacity.
  • Native level of English communication skills, including Persian and English translation techniques.

1-1. Academic and/or career background with:

Doctoral degree in the field of energy (including renewable energy and mineral resources sector) or engineering (including plant and infrastructure), OR Master’s degree with at least two (2) years of experience directly related to the field of energy (including renewable energy and mineral resources) or engineering (including plant and infrastructure), OR Bachelor’s degree with at least five (5) years of experience directly related to the field of energy (including renewable energy and mineral resources) or engineering (including plant and infrastructure).

1-2. Selection Criteria:

  • Proven ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision in an intercultural environment.
  • Timeliness in response to tasking and capacity to prioritize competing work demands within working hours to meet deadlines.
  • A self-motivated and self-directed learner who is open to diverse work portfolios.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, flexibility in a team setting, ability to work independently, and an enthusiastic approach preferred.
  • Preferred qualifications: applicants with work experience in embassies or in Korean companies (highly preferred with a similar work portfolio).
  • Note: only the candidate who uses the embassy website to apply will be considered.

Application Process:

I) Deadline: JUNE 12, 2024 (late submissions will not be considered in any circumstances)

ii) Please fill out the resume in the attached form in English and send it through the embassy's website with the subject line “Application for the Senior Advisor for Energy and Infrastructure”. All the references for the resume, including certificates for education, language, employment, and/or any other documents, shall be submitted to the same email address. Applicants should also submit both (a) their record of a criminal conviction, which has been issued by the public court of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and (b) a drug test from the authorized medical centers. Applications which lack of either document will be deemed ineligible for further process (the embassy will consider ‘receipts’ for applying those documents as invalid.)

iii) Applicants may submit recommendation letters (letters of reference) at their discretion. An applicant who submits the letters should provide the contact information of the recommenders.

iv) Applicants who have been selected for an assessment test and interview will be contacted around the end of June 2024. The Embassy will not make any contact with the applicants who are deemed to be ineligible for further consideration.

v) An assessment test and interview are expected to be held in early July 2024. All tests/interviews will be conducted in English, and applicants are expected to show their English proficiencies and/or their competencies at work during the evaluation process.

vi) Any application that does not meet any above-mentioned conditions will NOT be considered in any circumstances, and any descriptions for which references are not provided will be deemed invalid in the evaluation process.

Please note that the embassy will NOT take any inquiries on which this notice has informed, including those on whether an applicant has passed/failed the procedure.

The successful candidate will be offered one year of contract with three (3) months of probation period, with the possibility of renewal of the contract subject to the performance of the candidate during the work period. The salary for this position will be confirmed upon the conclusion of the employment contract.

At least 1500 USD per month (SSO paid separately).
