Job Description

•Main Objective: A research and development (R&D) manager performs a number of highly important roles within an organization. They are responsible for research, planning, and implementing new programs and protocols into their company or organization and overseeing the development of new products. The industry in which a research and development manager works will likely have an impact on their specific duties, as these professionals often find employment in fields like healthcare, technology, business, and pharmaceuticals. The types of products produced by a pharmaceutical company are likely to be different from those produced by a technical company, so R&D managers have the ability to specialize according to their interests. •Main Responsibilities -Research and Development management. Develop project scope, budgets, timelines, and project status reports. Manage projects to strategies, budgets and timelines. -Maintain accurate project information, formulations, and specifications -Collaborate with the Quality and Operations departments to create and review specifications for raw materials, blends, and finished products as needed. Develop documentation for new product development projects -Work collaboratively with cross functional teams including personnel in Quality Control, Marketing, Purchasing, Operations, and Finance on new product development and to resolve ingredient and product technical issues -Prioritize and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines -Participate in the identification of contract manufacturers for specific project needs -Lead collaboration on technical projects and technical product development -Develop policies and procedures as needed within area of responsibility -Coordinate plant trials and new product start-ups -Work with Operations to troubleshoot technical, formulation and processing issues during pilot plant runs -Arrange in-house sensory evaluations -Work with Procurement to facilitate solicitation and review of new ingredient samples -Evaluate and enhance current practices and efforts to ensure optimal support of diversity -Oversee leadership of teams and projects that involve extensive cooperation and coordination between multiple departments across the University or with external customers; prepare written and/or verbal presentations or proposals on highly complex issues and deliver to a broad variety of audiences -Identify and implement innovative solutions to important, highly complex strategic and/or operational issues which may involve unusual circumstances and incomplete or conflicting data -Ensure safe practices and environmental consciousness are exhibited in decisions -Work independently on highly complex or strategic assignments; may direct and supervise lower-level staff

Requirements

-Master’s Degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline; Ph.D. preferred -Over 15 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience -Extend mastery of job knowledge to the principles, theories and practices of related specialties -Expand knowledge of best practices and incorporate into all work assignments and procedures To become a research and development manager, you will generally need at least a bachelor's degree. The field in which you get a degree could be quite general, like human resources, finance, or management. However, if you know the type of industry in which you plan to work after you graduate, you could also study that field while in college. For example, if you know you want to work in healthcare or engineering, it may be wise to combine courses from both that discipline and a management or business discipline. Pursuing a master's degree may also increase your job prospects -Ideal Age Range: 27 - 40
