Job Description

The main purpose of the job: Coordinate, validate and follow up the referred cases from MSF clinics to the network of identified specialists and medical institutions and ensure services are provided according to MSF measures and criteria. Represent the values and principles of MSF and maintain ethical and professional conduct with all patients and referral medical facilities’ authorities. Responsibilities and tasks: ● Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood. ● Follow up on the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients through regular visits, discuss and agree with treating professionals in other departments – in collaboration with other doctors and inform their families about the patient’s evolution. ● Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patient's illness, or medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment, or material. ● Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed for referral patients at all times. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected. MSF section/context-specific accountabilities for the role: ● Under the supervision and close collaboration with Project Medical Referent (PMR) validates and organizes the schedule for all the referrals out of the MSF clinics and makes sure the patient is properly received in the referral facility. ● Organize and assist in admitting the patient to hospitals, OPD specialist consultation, further diagnostic investigation centers, or any other appointment out of the MSF clinic. ● Be the contact person for the hospital focal point while the patient is in the hospital (including out of working hours whenever urgent) ● Provide certainty about the quality of care, the correct course of therapy, and completion of treatment throughout the patient’s hospitalization. ● Liaise and maintain good and professional relationships with the managers and medical teams of the referral hospitals. Make the connection between the medical team referral structures and the MSF medical team. ● Follow up on receiving all results of requested OPD referrals on time. ● Spot medical facilities with qualified specific services and suggest the appropriate medical structure for the referral. ● Regularly update the contact list and the mapping of the referral centers ● Respect medical secrets and confidentiality of the patients ● Supervise correction of financial and administrative procedures part of referrals ● Participate in weekly MSF medical committee meetings to discuss planned IPD, complicated, or expensive cases with the medical team, Project Medical Referent (PMR), and also telemedicine specialists. The tasks above are not exhaustive regarding the specificity of MSF and possible evolution that could occur over time through adaptation of the mission. Consequently, other tasks can be asked to allow the mission to function optimally.

Requirements

● Medical doctor. ● At least 2 years of medical experience (general medicine or in general practice). ● Experience in collaboration with INGOs. ● Fluent in Farsi and English (4 skills). ● Essential computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Personal attributes required: ● Results and service quality orientation. ● Teamwork and cooperation, able to work with multidisciplinary teams in a multicultural context. ● Behavioural flexibility. ● Commitment.to MSF principles. ● Good communication skills (verbal and writing). ● Stress management skills. ● Flexible and rigorous.
