About the Job :
Purpose of Position:
The Operations Manager has an overall responsibility and accountability for the administration and control of the day to day activities of the container- and customs office. This position has to ensure that all pre-planned operational activities and set targets are being achieved.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Makes recommendations to the Managing Director on operational practices and processes, which will help to achieve reductions in cost and improvement of the efficiency.
2. Ensures proper coordination with the Shipping Lines/Clients regarding vessel schedules and the submission of documents within cut of time.
3. Based on the preliminary advice regarding the vessels arrival and the cargo forecast, prepares work plan for the different department and positions.
4. Plans, organises and manages regular operations meeting with the different department of the operations to discuss the work plans and their implementation.
5. Ensures that the discharging and loading instructions are properly executed by the terminal manager on time.
6. Ensures that the physical address of containers and other goods in the yard are exactly the same as those reflected in the report or in the terminal computer system.
7. Ensures that accurate and complete reports/information are forwarded to all parties concerned.
8. Monitors yard operations and vessels and submits periodic reports of accomplishments and problems encountered.
9. Trains the operations personnel in all aspects of operational functions to improve the efficiency of the operations.
10. Ensures that all Client queries (internal/external) are immediately attended to.
11. Prepares the operations team manning schedule and ensures that the operation departments are sufficiently manned 24h/7days a year.
12. Issues and recommends disciplinary actions or recommendations to personnel concerned to the Managing Director.
13. Schedules and approves vacations and other forms of leave of the operations department.
14. Ensures that all activities on line with the Terminal Operating System are closely monitored to meet all requirements.
15. Responsible for the security and safety of all sensitive information and data.
16. Works closely with the other heads of the departments to ensure that the services provided by the terminal are professionally and completely rendered.
17. Meets with the incoming duty superintendent for the night shift for briefing and handing over of duties. Assesses the productivity level and problems encountered during the shift. Follows up on balances of work for the remaining shift. Gives information on problems and instructs how to solve and implement solutions for corrective measures.
18. Performs other functions as may be directed by the Managing Director.

Proficiency in computer (MS office)
Job requirements:
Fluent English in word and mouth
3-5 years of experience in similar position preferably in shipping, port or container terminal operations
